Care Free World

Why can we not be like the birds. Twittering around without any care – free – free from all the worries and tensions. Not a care except to peck on some food when hungry, and dip into some water when thirsty. Why God, what did we do wrong?

What we see today is a collage of mad scramble, intolerance, anger, frustration an all in all chaos. The situation in varying degrees is similar throughout the entire World. Where is it all leading to – ultimately to a chaotic explosion.

Time

Time – creative thinking process. The time spent every day towards thinking of your goals. The purpose in life. Set goals in your life. You can use the unlimited power of your mind.
No worthy goal is impossible.

The secret is to keep reminding yourself of your goals at least once every day. It should be totally and indelibly ingrained in your mind. Make a list and keep it handy.

Achievement of Goals

The achievement of goals are possible if it does not violate the principles of God and violate fellowmen. The achievement of impossible goals is possible.

So long as you are able to help some people genuinely the goals set are achievable. God will surely lend a helping hand.

The Last Mile……

The Last Mile …..
What is the last mile. It the final bend or distance that one has to cover at the end of a long distance, or even a short distance. I have always had this feeling, now entirely depending on my state of mind, as to whether this last mile is going to give me the reserve energy to sprint through to my freedom or do I have to drag myself towards the finish line. In my present state it is very difficult to judge. Do I take this as the last mile…is it really the beginning of the end..or is it turning of a new leaf. Somehow I feel that there is a lot of things that I could undo if I had the opportunity. What was it that I set myself out to do or rather achieve when all this first began – frankly speaking I have no Idea. I have never been good at doing any sort of planning in my entire life. I plan on a post haste basis, on the hindsight rather that calculate everything to its fruitful conclusion. At 45 it is rather too late, or is it really?

I never planned to go into business, never thought that I had the necessary wherewithal but then I did. Once it happened, I started thinking big without bothering about the consequences of where it would all lead. But somehow without any further thought I just followed my heart and did whatever struck me. Just like that – no planning, no forethought, nothing to grab on to – just followed my instincts. However, I made a terrible mistake – I trusted people. And today when most of that trust has been betrayed – I strangely do not feel any remorse. A little antipathy maybe, but then how can I be responsible for the actions of others. It is not me who has broken the trust, but the people whom I trusted who have broken that trust.

Then why do I want to give everything up and go into some sort of a hibernation. I am actually fed up of everything that surrounds me. I want to spend more time with my family, maybe laze around and do something meaningful at my own pace on my terms and with no accountability from anyone or to anyone. I want to be alone – and in solitude and be responsible for my own actions. Be answerable to none but myself. As on 30 September 2010, I have spent around 22 years and six months WORKING. The years have passed in a daze – I have fleeting memories – some joyous and some enjoyable and some happy, but on the whole the life so far has been quite peaceful for me till the time that I got the idea of getting to do business. Am I the right person for business – no I personally don’t think so. I make a lousy businessman. I just do not have the knack for it. But then that is what my fate had destined. And who am I to fight Destiny. But then there has been a heavy price that I have paid for it. It is like trying to convert Sea water into potable drinking water, where the cost of production would tilt the balance of the economy of scale.

The Fight between the Politicians vs Civil Society.

The big guns are out. The full scale war has begun, and the Generals themselves are out in the front. The stalwart Union Ministers, respected Opposition Leaders, and et all. Will they be able to achieve what definitely is a strong agenda – stiffle the voice of the Lokpal movement. However, even if the Politicians have become resentful of these activists who are representing the civil society, we as Citizens of this Country must definitely realize that, the responsibility of our Country is not in the hands of a privileged few. We must realize that we are strong and we are free from tyranny as long as each one of us remembers his or her duty as a citizen. And the moment this day of reckoning is going to spread that will be the day when democracy would eventually triumph. What we have today is forced governance dressed in the garb of democracy.

Lokpal Bill – Rocky Movement !

The worst fears of the entire lokpal movement being throtled and the process derailed is now evidently very obvious. The Politics of this Country just cannot afford to allow the people to take control. And of course this is a classic case where both the Political Setup and the bureaucracy would like to join as one to collectively take on the crusaders. If (and by the looks of it) it happens it would be a real shame. It would be shameful for each and every citizen of this country. All of us who are in the majority would have failed to protect our own interest.

Why do we fight ?

Why do we fight? Why are we jealous? Why are we always concerned about what the other is doing? Why can we not be content and be happy within our own spheres!!

Is it so very difficult to control these emotions ?

Business Plans – How relevant it is ?

Think Entrepreneurship and the first question asked is, Do you have a Business Plan? I have always wanted to write a Business Plan, but after 12 Years of being in Business, employing over 140 People, having Offices in 14 odd locations in India, having four five different Companies, I am yet to have seriously sat down and document a Business Plan. Apart from setting the Vision and Objectives what else can be written down as a formal Business Plan. We have to achieve what we have envisaged, in actual reality. This would require adapting to real time situations rather than referring to some written down documents. Maybe, the Business Plan would be more authentic if it is written after the Business is estblished. If actual statistical data is evaluated, then more often than not, there would be no correlation between a startup firm’s ultimate revenue or net income and the supposedly requisite written business plan.

Many of the contemporary entrepreneural stalwarts of like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Michael Dell did not actually have any Business Plans in hand when they embarked on ventures that became synonymous with the Word Success. The earliest however just got on and cashed in on their small efforts turning big. But sadly even though the research debunks the requirement of a business plan, the myth lingers. Don’t get me wrong. I am not debating or undermining the sanity of a Business Plan in any way. If possible, we ought to sit down and plan everything before we actually go down onto the playing field. My own belief is that a formal business plan invites the “paralysis of analysis”. It distracts in the sense that it prohibits “entrepreneurship” in its true sense. Playing by the script might inhibit our ability to innovate.

Would you rather be developing your first Customers, through a previously written down script or create the posibilities adapted and tuned aligned to the prevailing circumstances. How can you forecast and “write” about Customer behaviour and specific requirements? How to translate “thought” to “action”. Should you agonize over writing everything down in a format of a journal that says that it is the wy to do it ? Well unless it is some competition on “Writing Business Plans” – NO. The time would rather be better spent out on the street, learning all that you can from potential Customers.

Do we then write these Business Plans for our Lenders ? Then are the Banks and FI to be fooled by such documented story into which they are going to “invest” ? Yes some serious Cash Flow projections are essential, this is akin to fuel in the tank to keep the momentum intact and going. An effective and well thought cash-flow projections, coupled with a killer executive summary would be all that a Lender would require to base his decision on.

Great Business plans are mostly to obtain an A grading in Business Schools, however in real life as per my view the biggest A is that of Achievement. You would have to enter into the arena, well thought out objective in mind and create the Business as you go along. If you want to be an entrepreneur, go out and Achieve it.

And the threadbare requirement for writing one :

> Aim to summarize the plan with a Killer Executive Summary. You should be able to sell your idea in 2 Pages. If you are not able to grab the attention in the first or max second page, you’ve lost your reader, and the probable Investor.

> Don’t obsess with Words. It is the thought(s) and gist of the idea that really counts.

> Focus on Customer who is going to buy what you are selling and how you’re going to reach them.

> Remaining Focus should be on numbers. Offer well researched and well-documented numbers assumptions that can be as convincing as possible.

Should The Government Be Allowed to do Business ?

“Ratnas need to be preserved”, this was what the CPI & CPI(M) propagated when the Vajpayee led BJP Government took up the divestment of the PSU.
But is it really wise to allow the Government to continue to “dabble” in business. When a Private Sector requires money it approaches the plethora of avenues including the Public. But when PSU’s run aground more often than not it is baled out using the Tax-Payers money.

Why should we allow it?

The classic example is Air-India. Why attach false sentiments and keep this behemouth propped up. Last year some 2000 crores of the Tax-Payers money was “gifted” to run the airline. This year again the story is going to be somewhat similar. And to what use. Travelling on Air-India, very few “common man” prefers to travel the snobbish airline, what with disgruntled staff who couldnt care less whether you returned to travel with them.
